Gillibrand: Fire up manufacturing; senator has three-pronged plan for job creation
BALLSTON SPA — It’s time to put partisan politics aside, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) said, and for Republicans and Democrats to work together to develop legislation that will create jobs and ultimately steer the embattled economy back on track.
And the place to start, she said, is in the manufacturing sector.
On Friday, Gillibrand announced her new manufacturing agenda during a press conference at Specialty Silicone Products in Ballston Spa, a plan that aims to not only create grant programs to help small manufacturing businesses, but also expand manufacturing tax credits and encourage entrepreneurs to invest in manufacturing communities.
New York’s manufacturing sector suffered a crippling loss between 2005 and 2010, losing more than 123,000 jobs, but experienced a 9 percent growth in high-tech computer and electronic manufacturing jobs between 2004 and 2008.
Gillibrand’s three-pronged plan aims to stimulate the high-tech manufacturing industry and create more high-paying jobs.
