Hurricane Irene Resources
I've assured Governor Cuomo, Mayor Bloomberg as well as Long Island officials that my office is ready to assist in any way we can in response to Hurricane Irene.
I'm pleased that President Obama has granted Governor Cuomo's request for a declaration of emergency for New York at my and Sen. Schumer's urging. As Hurricane Irene heads north, federal resources must be in place now to protect residents of New York City and Long Island.
Mandatory evacuations of some low lying areas of New York City have been announced. For a map of evacuation zones and evacuation centers, be sure to check http://www.nyc.gov. You can also get the most up to date information at the NYC Office of Emergency Management Facebook page.
For updates on evacuation and preparation on Long Island, be sure to check the Nassau County and Suffolk County sites.
And if you're on Twitter, I've created a Twitter list with up to the minute safety tips, preparedness information and news updates here.
Please stay safe, everyone!
