NY Senator Gillibrand Unveils Two Bills to Increase Government Online Transparency (#IWNY)

NY  Senator Kirsten Gillibrand unveiled two bills that will increase government transparency at the 2011 Personal Democracy Forum, which was held today as part of Internet Week NY.  One of the bills, the Senate Campaign Disclosure Parity Act, would require senators to file campaign finance reports electronically.  A similar bill was previously put on hold by Senator John Ensignin 2003.

The other bill, the Public Online Information Act, would require all public documents to be made available and machine-searchable online before being deemed public.  Agencies would have three years to prepare before making their records public and would only apply to records released after the law is enacted.
